Ice Cream Tasters: Two Dips Ice Cream Tasters

"Ordinary People in Search of Extraordinary Ice Cream"

SheerBliss Ice Cream

When SheerBliss sent us an e-mail asking if we would mind if they sent us a few of their ice cream flavors to try, it didn't take long for us to say yes. Soon there after, we received eight pints of the SheerBliss ice cream line. We were expecting maybe two or three pints, but the whole line of ice cream? That's when it dawned on us that we could not do a full review of each flavor. We picked one ice cream flavor to fully review; "California Pomegranate" and the rest we would try on a less formal basis.

Below we have broken down the SheerBliss ice cream flavors we received and given short reviews:

SheerBliss "Freedom" Ice Cream
Ice Cream Cone Extraordinary Kris: Vanilla ice cream is speckled with farm fresh tasting blueberries and a subtle jammy pomegranate swirl. Freedom obviously plays to the red, white and blue nature of the flavor. The title is a bit out of character for this brand, however it is deserving of major praise for its unique flavor and fresh tasting qualities.
Ice Cream Cone Extraordinary Fred: This is a great, and unexpected, mix of vanilla ice cream, blueberry, and pomegranate. Though I can respect the play on the ingredients for the title, it's comes off as being a bit corny. However, there's nothing corny about the rest of this ice cream. It's definitely extraordinary!

SheerBliss "Vanilla with Pomegranate Swirl" Ice Cream
Ice Cream Cone Up Kris: This vanilla ice cream is the Freedom flavor without the blueberry. Actual pomegranate pieces of fruit are swirled lightly throughout the canister. The taste is very mild with sections of tangy fruit.
Ice Cream Cone Up Fred: I preferred this ice cream when it had the blueberry swirl and was called "Freedom." If you taste Freedom ice cream before Vanilla with Pomegranate, just skip this one and stick to the Freedom. However, if California Pomegranate and Freedom are a bit too much in flavor impact for you, this is a delicious choice.

SheerBliss "Pomegranate with Dark Chocolate Chips" Ice Cream
Ice Cream Cone Up Kris: This flavor is exactly like the Pomegranate flavor with the addition of dark chocolate chips. The chips are very slender and small (Baskin and Robins like) and are plentiful. This ice cream is delicious. The chocolate is not too overbearing. The semi-sweet chocolate mixes well with the tart pomegranate. The POM juice is used for this flavor instead of the whole fruit. YUM!
Ice Cream Cone Up Fred: This is barely an up for me. I didn't really care for the mix as much as the other flavor mixes. This ice cream is okay, but you really have to like dark chocolate for it to be more than that. The taste is long lasting, which is good for those who like it.

SheerBliss "Mediterranean Coffee" Ice Cream
Ice Cream Cone Up Kris: I am not a coffee ice cream person. This flavor seems like coffee with cream and sugar instead of some of the pungent Starbucks flavors. It is very smooth. Out of all the coffee ice creams I have tried (which is limited), I like this one the most.
Ice Cream Cone Extraordinary Fred: This is, without a doubt, the best coffee ice cream I've ever had. It's subtle, but excellent and it doesn't have an overpowering flavor. This is absolutely an extraordinary coffee ice cream.

SheerBliss "Chocolate" Ice Cream
Ice Cream Cone Down Kris: I was really looking forward to this chocolate, but it let me down. It has the coloring of Dutch cocoa, but does not taste rich at all to me. It's like a mild dark chocolate. I thought it lacked flavor.
Ice Cream Cone Up Fred: Awesome flavor! This is another subtle flavor for SheerBliss, but it's delicious. The ice cream was very smooth. It's chocolate the way it should be.

SheerBliss "Vanilla" Ice Cream
Ice Cream Cone Down Kris: This vanilla has some of the same qualities of Breyers vanilla. The taste of the vanilla is very similar. If you like Breyers vanilla, you could save some money here. (The texture of SheerBliss Vanilla is much better than Breyers because of the fat content.) This flavor serves as an excellent base for SheerBliss's signature flavors.
Ice Cream Cone Up Fred: I liked this flavor when I first tasted it, but when I tried it a second time (after Kris mentioned that it tasted like Breyers), I found that she was absolutely right. While the vanilla works with all the mixes that SheerBliss makes, it doesn't stand on its own all that well. It could stand to be a bit more different... somehow. This is BARELY a Cone Up for me.

If you were counting, you may think; "Hey, I thought they shipped eight pints of ice cream! What was the last pint?" There is no deep mystery here. There was a duplicate pint of SheerBliss "Mediterranean Coffee" ice cream, which made Fred very happy!

The next thing we thought we would do is individually rate the ice cream flavors. This list is in the order that we would choose to eat the ice cream. The top of the list represents our favorite on down.

All in all, we both enjoyed the SheerBliss brand of ice cream. The problem is that it has not reached mass distribution yet. SheerBliss ice cream is currently available in Califonia, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Maryland. The part that is interesting is that the ice cream is manufactured in Florida, but it is not sold in the sunny state. Here's hoping that changes soon!
